College tours are a big part of the admission process. Every quarter hundreds of prospective students visit SCAD campuses for guided tours of the various buildings.
This is a problem for International candidates who also want a tour of the campus as sometimes what we see online is not enough.
We came up with a new service involving GS1 the telepresence robot. With just a weblink and facetime, anyone from anywhere will be able to take part in the campus tours at SCAD.
The code, circuit and structure of the robot went through many iterations as we improved it progressively based on feedback we got.
At this stage a lot of our focus was on a basic code to make the robot move a little with a very basic body frame structure.

The construction phase saw parallel development of the chassis, wheel mount, circuits for motion & lights and code to make the robot run wireless and through remote control.
By the end of this stage we were done building the chassis and enabled remote control over the internet for a user in any part of the world.
This is the interface the end user will interact with where half the screen is facetime and half the screen is a weblink with the controls.
After three weeks, we presented GS1 to the class. He walked around class so everyone could say hi and then we ran a mock tour with a prospective student from China.
